On this mine deep in the South American Altiplano, the pumps kept failing due to a very high solids content in the water but also because the pipe was not properly sized. It is recommended to maintain a velocity of about 6ft/sec in the column pipe. This ensures that any suspended solids that enter the pump and column have the velocity to get out at the top.

8” Boreline was recommended due the speed and ease with which pumps can be installed and retrieved.
